The Tasmanian Devils

Tasmanian Devils have been in children’s lexicon since 1954 when the character of the same name made his debut. While you won’t see any tornados or wacky toons, the Tasmanian devil enclosure needs to be on your list. It first premiered last year, to much success, and has since become a fan favorite. Featuring indoor and outdoor viewing, these two-year-old devils are anything but. Columbus is now one of only seven zoos in North America to house Tasmanian Devils, so be sure to check them out!

The Bears

Bears are truly spectacular creatures. First off, they’re gigantic, much much larger than most people expect. Polar bears, the largest of the genus, stand up to 10 feet tall and is a sight to behold. At the Columbus Zoo, you can get an up-close view of polar bears, grizzlies, and more. There’s also a nearby petting zoo, polar-themed playground, and short train ride that your kids will love.

The Heart of Africa

There are few biomes more alien to midwesterners than the African savanna, and The Heart of Africa Exhibit puts that juxtaposition front and center. Spanning 43 acres, this sweeping exhibit highlights the beautiful animals that consider the savanna home, including lions, giraffes, and more. There’s also a grounded plane that provides kids with a unique vantage point, and a spot to feed giraffes from an observation deck!

The Manatee Coast Boat

Few things are more magical than being able to see underwater. It’s a whole different world down there, with incredible sights and spectacular animals. The Manatee Coast Boat lets viewers see what’s going on under the waves, highlighting the wide variety of sea life than we don’t typically get to see. It’s a perfect way to introduce your kids to sea turtles, manatees, and other incredible creatures.

The Australian and Islands Exhibit

Kangaroos and koalas are adorable. That isn’t an opinion, either, it’s a stone-cold fact. And at the Australian and Islands Exhibit, you’ll get to see for yourself! In this exhibit, you get to walk up close to kangaroos at the Kangaroo Walkabout or see how cuddly a koala bear really is. Your kids will love this down under exhibit.
