Top 5 Columbus Zoo Exhibits
The Columbus Zoo is an incredible attraction full of incredible exhibits. However, anyone who’s gone knows that it’s nearly impossible to see it all in one day! Feet get tired, stomachs rumble and after several hours of wandering, people tend to want to go home. So if you want to maximize your trip, it’s best to plan ahead of time! The Tasmanian Devils
Tasmanian Devils have been in children’s lexicon since 1954 when the character of the same name made his debut. While you won’t see any tornados or wacky toons, the Tasmanian devil enclosure needs to be on your list. It first premiered last year, to much success, and has since become a fan favorite. Featuring indoor and outdoor viewing, these two-year-old devils are anything but. Columbus is now one of only seven zoos in North America to house Tasmanian Devils, so be sure to check them out!
The Bears
Bears are truly spectacular creatures. First off, they’re gigantic, much much larger than most people expect. Polar bears, the largest of the genus, stand up to 10 feet tall and is a sight to behold. At the Columbus Zoo, you can get an up-close view of polar bears, grizzlies, and more. There’s also a nearby petting zoo, polar-themed playground, and short train ride that your kids will love.
The Heart of Africa
There are few biomes more alien to midwesterners than the African savanna, and The Heart of Africa Exhibit puts that juxtaposition front and center. Spanning 43 acres, this sweeping exhibit highlights the beautiful animals that consider the savanna home, including lions, giraffes, and more. There’s also a grounded plane that provides kids with a unique vantage point, and a spot to feed giraffes from an observation deck!
The Manatee Coast Boat
Few things are more magical than being able to see underwater. It’s a whole different world down there, with incredible sights and spectacular animals. The Manatee Coast Boat lets viewers see what’s going on under the waves, highlighting the wide variety of sea life than we don’t typically get to see. It’s a perfect way to introduce your kids to sea turtles, manatees, and other incredible creatures.
The Australian and Islands Exhibit
Kangaroos and koalas are adorable. That isn’t an opinion, either, it’s a stone-cold fact. And at the Australian and Islands Exhibit, you’ll get to see for yourself! In this exhibit, you get to walk up close to kangaroos at the Kangaroo Walkabout or see how cuddly a koala bear really is. Your kids will love this down under exhibit.
